Polymorph granules 500 gm bags (TS0222)
POLYMORPH (Also known as Polycaprlactone polymer, Friendly Plastic, Shapelock, Plaast and Instamorph)
A plastic able to be hand mouldable and may be resoftened, reused and refashioned many times.
Polymorph (Caprolactone polymer) is relatively a new commercial plastic in that is biodegradeable has a low softening point when it may be worked and moulded into complex shapes.
It may be softened in hot but not boiling water or with care softened using a hair dryer or hot air gun..
On cooling it is similar to Polyethylene or Nylon in appearance and physical
properties though is clearly much stiffer and stronger than most Polyethylene products.
Provided it is not over heated (softening range 60 to 65 degrees Centigrade) or contaminated with dust or impurities, as a thermoplastic it may be resoftened and reformed many times.
It may be worked and fashioned using common hand tools or indeed machined using CNC equipment when it is in its solid state.
In its softened state in may be rolled flat, into a sheet form, fashioned into cylinders for axial turning or simply moulded into shapes.
This is an ideal material for,
-
Model making of unique shapes that may not be easily produced in any other way.
-
Repair by replacement of parts no longer obtainable
-
Creation and trialling of designs
-
Experimentation, trial and error, refining, testing of prototypes.
